In Times Of Trouble

Tammy and I recently lost a friend. A sweet woman, who should’ve been in the middle of her life. Who should’ve seen her little boy and her teenage daughter grow up. A woman who should’ve grown old with her adoring husband.

I’m telling you this, not because I want sympathy for a loss. But because she was honestly the most positive person I have ever met, even in the midst of her deepest pain. And she was an inspiration throughout her struggle.

Bethany always had a kind word to say. She felt good about potential treatments. Though she was weary, she remained upbeat. She was open with her story, and with the difficulties, but maintained a sunny spirit throughout it all.

And she never once gave up on her deep and abiding love of the Lord. She was the very epitome of James 1:2-4, which says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

It’s hard to smile through pain. It often feels downright impossible to do so. But rest assured that times of trouble will only make you stronger in the end. Even if your ending comes far earlier than it feels like it should.

  1. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend! It’s women like her that set the bar for all others. For her to maintain such a positive outlook in the darkest times is an amazing inspiration to us all! Thanks for sharing!

  3. I’m so sorry for your loss – I have lost far too many this past year as you know.
Praying for strength for the ones she left behind – so, so hard.

  4. Thank you for sharing this post about a woman who sounds beautiful, positive & strong. It is always hard when people leave this world before we’re ready. Praying for her family and friends.
