I love redecorating my house.
Unfortunately, as I’ve said before, I don’t have carte blanche to spend all of our money on it.
So instead, I get creative, switching up what we already have in our house, and finding new homes for it.
One of the things I love to freshen up is our coffee table. Our family room is the first room you see when entering the house, and it becomes a focal point that I like to feature.
There are all sorts of tips and tricks to making this feature a memorable one.
1) Play with color.
I love a good monochromatic look. Blue is one of the easiest ways to do this, since blue is the only color that looks good with any other shade in its family. But I also often make the coffee table the place where bright pops come into play.
2) Play with texture.
Instead of smooth surfaces and square shapes, think contrasts of rough and soft. I brought in the floral elements and paired it with a vintage tool box, rusting and scratchy.
3) Use simplicity to your advantage.
This is by far my clutter hating husband’s favorite look. If he could take everything we own and get rid of it, he would. A clean surface is his happy place.
4) Experiment with height.
I like to play around with different heights on the coffee table, being careful not to use something too heavy for the space, or too large to see around. These candlesticks works because, although they’re tall, they’re thin enough to work here.
And at my mom’s house, she uses varying height across the length of the table.
5) Do something unexpected
Tammy’s always been one to do her own thing, whether it’s with fashion or home decor. And she’s certainly not one to shy away from glam touches. So her fur throw on the coffee table at her house? It’s very Tammy, and super chic.
The white on white on white only adds to the drama.
