I’m Doing It Anyway

Oh Happy Day

I really, really, really like birthdays.

What could be more fun than a day set aside to celebrate someone?

And I make no exception for my own birthday – it’s a great excuse to see friends, relax a bit, and do some favorite things.

I’m turning 37 today. Now, the number itself has never bothered me. I don’t mind inching toward 40. I just don’t want to LOOK like I’m nearing that milestone number.

But instead of thinking about that, I’m sharing a few photos from my past, highlights of my life pre-marriage and kids. Tammy shared random facts about herself for her birthday post, but you’ve heard all my randomness here – and really, what’s left to share?

baby picture

Here’s a wee little Cate, snuggling with my mom. Is it weird that I would wear my mom’s shirt if I found it in a shop today? She’s always been stylish.

toddler Cate

I rocked the athleisure look way before it was trending.

Cate with Snoopy

I loved, loved, loved that Snoopy stuffed animal. Sometimes I would take off his clothes and put a dress on him and pretend his sister Snoopette had come for awhile, but mostly I just hung with Snoopy.

family of three

Our family, before my brother joined the group.

Easter way back when

Easter 1984. I was almost 6, and my brother was 7 months.

Indian princesses

I was in a group called “Indian Princesses” with my dad, back in the day before the world became politically correct.

first day of school

First day of school – I’m guessing 1st or 2nd grade.

modeling

This picture was in the Star Tribune (our local paper) as part of a back to school modeling job I did in 1986.

Winnie the Pooh

In sixth grade I played the part of Bunny #3 in Winnie the Pooh at Child’s Play Theater (which is now called Stages Theater). I’m third from the left in the front row.

dance hair

Dance was a huge part of my life as a child. This is the costume from my sophomore year of high school – and yes, that’s my real hair.

pet rat

We had lots of pets throughout my youth, including two bunnies, three dogs, a turtle, a hamster, and various fish – AND our pet rat Ramona, pictured above.

winning nationals

Why are most of the girls in this picture crying? Because it was taken moments after learning we had won 1st place at the UDA dance nationals in Orlando Florida.

Vikings Cheerleading

After college, I cheered for the Vikings for a season. And then I went and married a Bears fan.

And there you have it – a snippet of my life before age 22. Though I’ve had some good highlights throughout the years, I truly believe the best is yet to come!
